Over the last few days, amid the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been protests all over the United States and around the world in response to the horrific death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis Police Officer, Derek Chauvin. This comes on the heels of the recent horrific deaths of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor and many other blacks at the hands of police in the United States.
The most heartbreaking part of the story for me personally was the way George Floyd died: on the ground with Officer Derek Chauvin’s knee on his neck saying “I can’t breathe.” We must do better! Our country must do better!
A LETTER TO YOU

Hi,
My name is Dorcas and I am BLACK!
Some people have said I’m not black, that I am African but I am a BLACK woman raising black kids and the scariest thing for me is that I am raising a BLACK SON!⠀
My son asked me the other day after hearing my conversation with Leo, “Why is the police killing people? I thought police are supposed to take bad guys to jail? He is only 5 and loves dinosaurs and super heroes. And right now I want it to stay that way ! My focus now is to teach him LOVE. I’ll save the race talk with him for later.
I have tried to stay away from the race conversation ever since I moved to the US !
I am a content creator for modern day women of all races. And I’ve had the pleasure of meeting amazing women of all races and colors on this platform!
To all my white friends, RACISM is not new and you’re well aware! But you may ask why now, or what is all this going to do ? You protest, then what ? Those who have gone before us like Dr. King, Rosa Parks and many others have paved the way for the progress we see today. It’s important to know that what we are doing today may not directly impact us today but will build a better future for our children and generations to come !
Please understand that this is not a Hate White people parade ! We just want to be treated fairly, to be heard, and to be given the same opportunities as anyone else. We are not hashtags but WE matter. Our lives matter.
BLACK LIVES MATTER !

Breonna Taylor was an essential worker murdered at the height of a pandemic in her HOME. She was killed by a barrage of bullets that struck her at least 8 times. Police were executing a no-knock warrant for another suspect that was already in their custody. 4 months later, no officers have been arrested, charged, or even disciplined. Donate, protest, petition and demand justice #BreonnaTaylor !

Black Lives Matter – Essential Reading
It’s also important to introduce books on black history to your children. You can simply encourage them to read books that celebrate black culture or books that can educate them on racism when you see it fit! I also have a direct link to shop those books on Amazon below:
